The Chinese Almanac (Tung Shing) Explained
The Chinese almanac — Tung Shing, or Huang Li — is a centuries-old daily guide to what's auspicious and what to avoid. It's still consulted for weddings, moves and big decisions.
What the almanac shows
For each day it lists the lunar date, the stem-branch pillars, and 'yi' (suitable) and 'ji' (to avoid) activities — from signing contracts to starting a journey.
Choosing an auspicious day
People traditionally pick wedding, opening and moving dates by the almanac, matching the day's energy to the occasion.
Clashes and directions
The almanac also notes the day's zodiac clash and lucky directions (such as the wealth direction), adding detail to the daily reading.
