How to Make Your Own Rune Set
Making your own runes is a meaningful first step into the practice. You don't need anything fancy — just 24 small, similar pieces and a way to mark them.
Choose your material
Smooth stones, wooden discs, clay or even cardstock all work. You need 25 pieces if you include a blank rune, or 24 for the traditional Elder Futhark.
Mark the symbols
Carve, burn or paint one Elder Futhark rune on each piece. Keep them consistent in size so none stands out when you draw from a bag.
Cleanse and connect
Many people 'cleanse' a new set and handle the runes often to get familiar with them. The act of making them builds a personal connection.
